Not Your Stereotype: The Female Immigrant Story They Get Wrong

What if everything you’ve been told about immigrant women is incomplete—or just flat-out wrong?
In this powerful solo episode, Dr. Slava challenges the narratives placed on immigrant women and replaces them with truth, nuance, and lived experience. This is not a story of struggle for sympathy—it’s a story of strength, strategy, and self-definition.
From navigating language barriers to rebuilding identity in unfamiliar systems, this conversation unpacks what it really takes to start over without losing yourself. It’s about ambition that doesn’t need validation, resilience that isn’t always visible, and power that doesn’t ask for permission.
This episode reframes the immigrant experience—not as limitation, but as layered, complex, and deeply transformative.
If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, underestimated, or misrepresented—this one hits different.

What does it feel like to return to the place your story began after nearly half a century away?
In this reflective episode of Chatting with Slava the Jordanian, STJ sits down with co-host Dr. Ehab Abdraeim to share the emotional and cultural experience of returning to Egypt after decades of living abroad.
After almost 50 years as an immigrant in the United States, stepping back onto Egyptian soil brings a flood of memories, questions, and a renewed sense of identity. The hosts explore what it means to reconnect with family roots, cultural traditions, and the deeper meaning of “home.”
Their conversation reflects on two recent journeys to Egypt—one focused on exploration and historical landmarks, and another centered on reconnecting with family and heritage. From the awe-inspiring pyramids and the Valley of the Kings to the warmth of everyday life in Cairo, the episode captures the beauty of rediscovering a homeland through new eyes.
STJ and Dr. Ehab also discuss the realities of life in Egypt today: the kindness of its people, the rhythm of daily life, and the powerful sense of community that continues to shape the country’s culture.
This episode is more than a travel reflection—it’s a conversation about identity, belonging, legacy, and what happens when the place you once left begins calling you back.
Whether you are an immigrant, a traveler fascinated by ancient civilizations, or someone curious about the cultural heartbeat of Egypt, this episode offers a thoughtful look at how returning home can reshape how we see the past, present, and future.

Growing Up Between Two Worlds with Haitham Khraishi

    Send a text
In this powerful episode of Chatting with Slava the Jordanian, host Dr. Slava (STJ) sits down with Haitham Khraishi, a Palestinian-American storyteller whose life has been shaped by navigating two cultures, two identities, and two worlds.
Born in the Washington DC area and raised between Maryland and Palestine, Haitham shares the emotional and cultural realities of growing up in the Palestinian diaspora. From childhood memories during times of geopolitical conflict to the struggle of feeling “Palestinian in America and American in Palestine,” his journey reflects the deeper questions of identity, belonging, and cultural responsibility.
Haitham discusses how education became a lifeline within Palestinian culture and how the pressure to succeed shaped his path toward earning a degree in mechanical engineering. Yet his story doesn’t stop there.
While studying in college, he discovered a unique passion for geography, history, and world flags—an interest that eventually led him to begin creating educational content on TikTok. What started as a personal curiosity turned into a creative outlet and a way to connect global audiences to culture, history, and heritage.
Today, Haitham also serves as a docent and tour guide at the Museum of the Palestinian People, where he helps share the history and culture of the Palestinian people. The museum, founded in 2019, highlights Palestinian art, heritage, and historical narratives in the United States.
Throughout this episode, Haitham reflects on the weight of duty, the challenge of identity crisis in diaspora communities, and the power of storytelling through digital platforms. From exploring historic Palestinian cities to educating audiences about the flags and civilizations of the world, his work bridges history, culture, and modern storytelling.
This conversation is a thoughtful look at identity, resilience, and the journey of finding purpose between cultures.

In Episode 41 of Chatting with Slava the Jordanian, Dr. Slava sits down with her longtime friend Michael Wilkie, founder and owner of Aspire Health and Fitness.
What began nearly two decades ago as a personal training relationship evolved into a deep and lasting friendship built on trust, discipline, and mutual growth. Despite differences in culture, faith, race, and professional background—Dr. Slava being a Muslim immigrant from a conservative Arab culture and Michael a Christian entrepreneur from the Western world—they became living proof that meaningful friendships transcend labels.
Michael shares his 26-year entrepreneurial journey, starting his fitness business at just 20 years old. From adding nutrition coaching in 2007 to launching online training in 2017 and expanding into small-group micro gym training in 2025, his evolution mirrors the adaptability required to stay relevant in business and life.
Together, they reflect on balancing business with personal relationships, sustaining long-term wellbeing, coaching with humility, and surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to grow.
This episode is about legacy, discipline, cultural respect, and the power of shared growth over time.
