When the Monroe Theatre opened in Woodsfield, Ohio, in 1939, it quickly became a hub for entertainment, hosting everything from vaudeville performances to classic films. But when the theater closed in 1977, the building didn’t fall completely silent.
For decades, reports of unexplained activity have continued inside its walls—phantom footsteps echoing backstage, music playing when no one is there, and equipment seemingly coming to life on its own.
Some believe the spirits of former employees and performers never left, continuing their routines long after the final curtain call.

There was nothing obviously wrong with the tall mirror in her grandmother’s sitting room. It had been in the family for years — older than the furniture, darker than the rest of the décor, quietly leaning against the wall.
But if someone stood in front of it long enough, something appeared.
Not in the center of the glass. Not clearly visible. Always at the edge of the frame — textured, darker than a shadow, and just out of direct view.
When she finally told her grandmother what she had seen, she wasn’t dismissed. She was told, simply, that it had always been there.
Years later, after her grandmother passed away, there was only one item her mother refused to take from the house.

The band buses were leaving before sunrise, which meant students were arriving at school long before the building normally opened.
When Luke realized he had forgotten an important folder in his locker, he ran inside to grab it before the buses left. The hallways were quiet and mostly dark. Halfway down the corridor he saw a custodian slowly mopping the floor.
Luke didn’t recognize him, but that didn’t seem strange at the time. Someone had to clean the building before students arrived. Later that afternoon, he casually mentioned the early shift to the school’s head custodian.
That’s when the conversation took a turn.
Because according to the staff…No one had been in the building that morning.
