Friday July 10th: Department of War drops forty more Pursue files spanning 1948 to last year. Tonight Jeremy and Jake go through all of it.
The centerpiece is a 77-year-old transcript that sat classified until last Friday. On February 16th, 1949, Edward Teller, Lincoln La Paz, and the Los Alamos lab director convened a secret meeting about green fireballs streaking silently over their own nuclear installations. By the end, even Teller couldn't explain the horizontal flight path. The lab director closed the meeting admitting it remained unexplained. That meeting created Project Twinkle, a network of observation posts built to catch these things on instruments. It was shut down before it could.
Seventy years later: an unidentified object over the Pantex plant near Amarillo, Texas, the country's primary nuclear weapons assembly facility. Radar, trained witnesses, cameras, and video all converging on the same object above a nuclear weapons site with no explanation.
Also in the release: a photograph from the space shuttle Columbia, a 28-year Air Force and Navy veteran who saw something unlike anything in his career, and a Harvard astrophysicist revealing his science council has requested 50 additional files the Pentagon still hasn't handed over.

Most people assume their fascination with UFOs is something they arrived at on their own. A sighting. A documentary. A feeling the official story never quite added up. Raymond Palmer understood that the line between a story and a belief is thinner than anyone wants to admit. When a welder named Richard Shaver began sending letters claiming an ancient subterranean civilization called the Deros was controlling human behavior from beneath the Earth's surface, Palmer didn't file it away. He published it, promoted it, and let it breathe until hundreds of thousands of readers were no longer sure whether they were reading fiction or testimony. By the time Kenneth Arnold's 1947 sighting gave the world the term flying saucer, the audience Palmer spent years cultivating was ready and waiting.
