Andrea’s journey began at just 15 years old, when she first realized something wasn’t right with her heart. As a young high school student, she faced uncertainty that would follow her into her college years—where she first heard the life-altering words: “You may one day need a heart transplant.”

As time went on, her condition worsened, leading to a critical chapter in her life. Andrea spent 150 days in the hospital, supported by one of the earliest LVAD machines—so large it was comparable to the size of a washing machine.

In the midst of it all, her story reveals moments of humanity and hope—including a remarkable memory where a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and technicians made sure she could attend a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game, proving that even in the hardest moments, life still finds a way to shine.

But Andrea’s greatest victory came when she received the gift of life—a life-saving heart transplant.
