The Flop House

Much like a horror movie villain, the Scream movies refuse to die, even though with every new sequel the films shed more of what that made the franchise special and the whole thing just becomes a regular ol' slasher series. Eventually you get late installments like SCREAM 7. Some have called it the worst Scream of all! Will we agree?

Does that pun work? Like docket? Like "clearing the docket" over on our friends' show Judge John Hodgman? Anywhoooo. Stu leads this mini where we name our "Top Three's" and clear a big backlog of people suggesting mini topics ALL AT ONCE! (Not that we necessarily take suggestions, so don't feel obligated to flood us with more, ya weirdos!)

We say goodbye to Smalltember with a true bad movie jewel (thanks to Alonso Duralde for recommending it) -- the kid/tween/teen musical comedy STANDING OVATION, one of the few movies about a singing competition that also makes room for a mob subplot and a child who threatens people with deadly animals. What a magical picture.

Smalltember winds are blowing in, and this year the currents brought us a doozy. SURFER: TEEN CONFRONTS FEARhas already become a new bad movie classic, and we had a lot of fun(?) confronting this strange object that arrived at Flop House central like a beached whale. It's a metaphysical monologue! It's a stealth religious film! It's a military thriller! It's a surfing movie! It's a dad wasting his kid's time! It's a way to use up old home movies by sneaking them into your narrative film! It's all this and much more!

And if you live in the Louisville area and want to see us live NOT through your computer screen, come to our show at Whirling Tiger in September!
