We join Zayn in NYC to discuss his new, fifth album ‘Konnakol.’ A record rooted in the South Asian tradition of Konnakol where syllables are performed percussively. Think of it as historic beatboxing. It’s a record steeped in his Pakistani heritage and influenced heavily by the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

We talk about all this (and Nusrat’s connection to Jeff Buckley), while also diving into some of the record’s sexy, sultry R&B tracks — one night stands, power dynamics, late night romps — it’s all in there too. Zayn opens up about his creative process, working again with Malay (Frank Ocean), appeasing his inner child, and of course as a proud father, how Khai has reshaped his sense of purpose and joy.
