- EP:206 Hey Thrive Community! 👋
Have you ever heard your child whining and immediately felt your entire body tense up?
Maybe it's the sound of crying, whining, screaming, repetitive questions, or even a certain tone of voice. Suddenly, you're irritated, overwhelmed, or desperate to make the noise STOP.
If you've ever thought, “Why does this sound bother me SO much?”—you're not alone.
In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm getting real about one of the parenting triggers I hear about all the time: why certain sounds from our children can feel incredibly activating to our nervous systems.
I also share my personal experience with my son, Charlie, who was colicky and needed a tremendous amount of support during his early years. That experience taught me so much about the connection between parenting, attachment, nervous system regulation, and our instinct to immediately jump into “fix-it mode.”
Because sometimes, the sound isn't just a sound.
Our brains can interpret certain cries, whining, or repetitive noises as signals that something needs to be fixed right now. And when we're already stressed, overstimulated, or depleted, our tolerance can become even smaller.
In this episode, we'll explore:
🧠 Why certain sounds trigger such a strong emotional response
👂 How auditory sensitivity and nervous system regulation can influence parenting
💛 Why awareness and self-compassion are so important when you're triggered
🔄 How our instinct to “fix” everything can keep us stuck in a cycle of stress
🌿 Practical strategies for supporting yourself when your child's behavior or sounds feel overwhelming
👩👧👦 How understanding your own nervous system can help you respond instead of react
And here's the reminder I want you to take with you:
It's okay to be triggered.
Being overwhelmed by your child's whining or crying doesn't make you a bad parent. It doesn't mean you don't love your child.
What matters is learning to recognize what's happening inside your own nervous system and finding healthier ways to support yourself through those moments.
Because parenting isn't about never getting triggered.
It's about learning what your triggers are, understanding yourself with compassion, and building the tools to move through those moments without losing yourself.

What Parents Need to Know
14/08/2026 | 15 minEP205: Hey Thrive Community! 💛
There’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: how are we helping our kids navigate a world that is constantly connected to a screen?
As parents, we have a huge opportunity to teach our children what healthy technology use looks like—not just by setting boundaries around screen time, but by modeling it ourselves.
Too much screen time and social media can impact a child’s emotional well-being, increase anxiety, fuel comparison, and make it harder for them to slow down, explore, make mistakes, and simply be kids.
And this isn’t about banning technology or making your home completely screen-free.
It’s about balance.
It’s about creating boundaries around devices while making space for outdoor play, creativity, connection, boredom, movement, and real-life experiences. 🌿
Most importantly, our kids are watching how we handle our own stress, emotions, phones, and mental health. We can tell them to put the phone down all day long—but when they see us constantly reaching for ours, they're learning from that, too.
So this weekend, I have a challenge for you:
GO EXPLORE. 🌳
Put the phones away for a little while. Go outside. Take a walk. Play in the backyard. Go to the beach. Sit in the sunshine. Let your kids get messy. Let them be bored. Let yourself breathe.
It doesn't have to be complicated.
Sometimes the nervous system needs exactly what technology can't give us: movement, nature, connection, and presence.
And remember—this isn't about being a perfect parent. It's about making small, intentional choices that support your family's mental health and emotional well-being.
🎧 Tune in to this week's episode of Thrive Like a Parent for more about parenting in the digital age, screen time boundaries, social media, nervous system regulation, and protecting your family's mental health.
💛 If this message resonates with you, subscribe to Thrive Like a Parent, leave a review, and share this episode with another parent who needs the reminder.
And this weekend… go explore. You might be surprised by what happens when you give your nervous system—and your kids—a little room to breathe.

This is one of them.
My children should not have had to grow up without their father. I should not have had to raise my children without him.
No family should have to experience the devastating loss of someone they love because of a mental health crisis. And yet, so many families are living with grief, trauma, and unanswered questions after losing someone they love.
As a parent and someone who supports parents every day, I see how much pressure we're carrying. We're expected to do more, be more, achieve more, parent perfectly, show up for everyone, and somehow keep it all together.
But our brains and nervous systems weren't designed to carry unlimited stress.
Eventually, something has to give.
And if you're struggling right now, please don't wait until things get worse to ask for help.
If you're feeling hopeless, isolated, overwhelmed, or like you can't keep going, reach out to someone. Talk to a trusted friend. Contact a mental health professional. Call a crisis line. Go to the hospital if you need immediate support.
You do not have to figure this out alone.
And if you're the person supporting someone who is struggling, I want you to hear this, too:
You can love someone deeply and still need support for yourself.
You can show up for them while also taking care of your own nervous system.
And sometimes, one of the hardest things we have to learn is that we can do everything we can to support someone—and still cannot control the outcome.
That doesn't mean you didn't love them enough.
It means you're human.
In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm opening up about grief, mental health, family loss, parenting through unimaginable circumstances, and why asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
If you're struggling, please reach out today. Don't wait.
And if someone you love is struggling, please don't assume they'll reach out on their own. Check in. Ask the uncomfortable question. Let them know they're not alone.
💛 Please share this episode with someone who may need to hear it. You never know when one conversation, one text, or one reminder that someone cares could make a difference.

Hi friends,
Can I be honest with you?
One of the biggest triggers for my nervous system is mess and clutter. When my home feels chaotic, it can feel like my brain immediately goes into overdrive. And if you're a parent, I have a feeling you know exactly what I'm talking about.
For years, I believed that a clean house meant I was doing a good job, and a messy house meant I was somehow failing.
But here's what I've learned...
Your home's appearance is not a reflection of your worth as a parent.
In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm sharing how I stopped chasing perfection and started creating a home that supports my nervous system instead of overwhelming it.
One of the biggest shifts I made was creating one space that belongs just to me—my bedroom. It's my calm, peaceful reset when toys are everywhere, laundry is piled up, and life feels beautifully chaotic. No TV. No clutter. Just a space where my nervous system can finally exhale.
I've also had to let go of the unrealistic expectation that my home should look Pinterest-perfect.
Because let's be real...
When you're raising kids, "lived in" doesn't mean you're failing—it means you're living.
I'm also sharing simple ways I've helped my kids become part of the solution by introducing responsibilities one small step at a time. Not because I expect perfection from them, but because teaching life skills builds confidence, responsibility, and teamwork.
And maybe the hardest lesson of all...
I had to stop worrying about what other people thought.
I used to feel anxious whenever my parents came over, convinced they'd notice every toy on the floor or every pile of laundry. But healing taught me something powerful:
Clutter doesn't define your value.
Your home doesn't need to be spotless for you to be an incredible parent.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the mess, struggling with perfectionism, or constantly carrying the mental load of trying to keep everything together, I hope this episode reminds you to give yourself a little more grace.
Because peace isn't found in a perfectly clean house.
It's found in a regulated nervous system.
🎧 Tune in now as we talk about decluttering your home, calming your nervous system, overcoming perfectionism, and creating a home that feels peaceful—even when life is anything but perfect.
💛 If this episode encouraged you, subscribe to the channel, leave a review, and share it with another parent who needs permission to let go of perfection. Together, we're building a community where parents stop striving for perfect and start thriving in real life.
