&TEAM and EVAN are the main event this week because I have THOUGHTS about these comebacks, with examples because apparently I need to show my working. We’re also discussing why certain producers need to stop bringing sauceless white-man energy into K-pop, BLACKPINK potentially nearing the end of the group, CYE’s 7-track album and HEARTS2HEARTS’ “Moonride.”
And yes, Bang chan caught some strays cos of his pick me-ism!

THE BOYZ's Kevin has been speaking candidly about the K-pop industry, cultural appropriation, capitalism and why he believes K-pop fans deserve better. There were quite a few points I found myself agreeing with, so that's the centre of today's discussion as I get into what he said, where I think his criticism is justified and the uncomfortable relationship K-pop has always had with borrowing from other cultures while operating as an aggressively commercial industry.
There's also a LOT happening elsewhere. ENHYPEN are already working on their next album and Ni-ki somehow received backlash just for mentioning it, ATEEZ are coming back in November, KiiiKiii ended promotions without a music-show win, XngHan & Xoul have introduced four new Japanese members, and Kim Soo-hyun's appearance at the AAAs is facing protests.
I also get into the SKIBIDI backlash, why calling every criticism of it “it's just brainrot!” misses the point, and Taemin's latest album, which sent me into a completely different conversation about idols leaving the companies that built their musical identities. Creative freedom is great, but I'm increasingly convinced that some idols are exceptional products and performers without necessarily being particularly good at curating themselves as recording artists.
And for this week's Micah's Picks, we're back with TUIDE! Sunkiss and ABD have officially made the cut after I was literally arguing with their fans about their debut last week.

TUIDE have officially debuted, and while I found the song a little underwhelming, the bigger story for me became the reaction to my review. Some people took a pretty fair critique VERY personally, which opened up a wider conversation about how defensive K-pop fans can get when you don’t immediately praise a group they like.
I also push back on the idea that I have some huge SM bias, especially considering I was just as critical of HEARTS2HEARTS when they debuted last year. Apparently consistency only counts when people agree with you lol.
Elsewhere, I discuss Mark apologising again and previewing new music, BLACKPINK’s solo careers, and I’m officially introducing Micah’s Picks, starting with ENHYPEN’s Bad For You.
It's essentially another form of Anatomy of a Song, but it’ll now occasionally appear at the end of my weekly episodes whenever there’s a song I really want to dissect instead of always needing its own separate episode.

Is K-pop really becoming indistinguishable from Western pop? Vernon recently spoke about the similarities between the two, and while I understand his point, I think there are some pretty important nuances missing from that conversation, especially when you look at the history of K-pop and Black American music.
I also get into the increasingly repetitive Stray Kids-coded soundscape popping up across from NEXZ, from the deep husky voices to nonsense hooks and production gimmicks, and why acknowledging similarities between artists shouldn't automatically be treated as an insult.

Today we're getting into BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary and... what exactly was THAT?? From the lacklustre celebrations to Jisoo getting emotional, I talk about why such a huge milestone for one of K-pop's biggest groups deserved SO much more.
Then there's WAYFBOY's debut, the immediate comparisons and accusations of them being inspired by LNGSHOT, and Jay Park's response to the whole thing. I get into where inspiration ends and copying begins, because some of the similarities definitely got people TALKING.
