Fire and Folklore: The Burning of Bridget Cleary – Revisited Halloween Special 🎃
In March 1895, in a small village in County Tipperary, 26-year-old Bridget Cleary became the victim of one of the most disturbing crimes in Irish history.
Her husband believed she had been taken by the fairies and replaced by a changeling. What followed was a shocking tragedy that would make headlines far beyond Ireland and leave Bridget's name forever associated with the darker side of Irish folklore.
For this special Halloween upload, we're revisiting an episode originally released in January 2024, now featuring an atmospheric original musical score composed by James Hanly of South East Technological University (SETU).
James's music brings a new dimension to Bridget's story, and I'm delighted to have another opportunity to showcase the talent of SETU's students.

This week, Nules looks at the investigation into Loredana Morosanu’s death in Finglas, Glen Keane’s death following an assault in Listowel, and the latest developments in the Waterford fire investigation and Paul O’Connor’s murder case.
There is evidence from the trials concerning the deaths of Josie Ray and Louise, Mark and Evan O’Connor, along with Sean Brown’s family’s Supreme Court hearing over a public inquiry into his murder. The episode also includes court updates from Doagh and the Mark Cullen case.
Forty years after Philip Cairns disappeared, Gardaí are assessing new information. There are also appeals concerning missing woman Bernadette Gilmartin, an unidentified man found in Clondalkin, an attempted murder in west Belfast and a shooting in Ballymoney.

West Belfast attempted murder: Watch the footage released by police. If you recognise the man shown or have information, contact PSNI 101, quoting 664 of 23/02/25. Police ask people not to speculate about his identity or name him on social media.

Ballymoney shooting: PSNI 101, quoting 21 of 27/10/26.

Garda Confidential Line: 1800 666 111. Information can also be given at any Garda station.
Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org. The west Belfast reward of up to £20,000 applies to information given directly to Crimestoppers that leads to an arrest and conviction. Information given only to police does not qualify.

After burying Eoghan and Ruairi, Kathleen Chada began discovering things her husband had kept from her. An email in her son’s account raised questions about how far back Sanjeev’s plans went. His letters brought no comfort.
In Part Two, we follow the criminal case, the inquest and Kathleen’s life in the years after her boys were murdered. We hear about the support she needed, the difficult decisions about their belongings and her work to help other bereaved families and campaign for change.
Through it all, Eoghan and Ruairi remain at the centre, remembered by their mam for the boys they were.
