Rental Housing — Resolving Chinese People’s Major Pursuit of "Secure Dwelling" and the Culture of "Home | Chinese Daily Conversations | 日常对话 | 中文听力 | 中文播客
30/07/2026 | 14 minWhen you come to China to live, study, or work long-term, once you’ve figured out where to eat, how to get around, and how to order takeout or have packages delivered, the most important and essential task is finding a place to live. A home is the foundation of life, and searching for a place, viewing properties, communicating with real estate agents, verifying the property’s amenities, and signing a lease are steps every foreigner coming to China must go through.
Many Chinese language learners can converse fluently in everyday situations, but they completely freeze up when it comes to renting: they don’t know how to explain their housing needs to agents, can’t understand the terminology for apartment amenities, struggle to follow specialized rental jargon, and have trouble deciphering contract terms. This makes it easy to end up renting an unsuitable apartment or even get caught up in rental disputes. The vocabulary used in rental scenarios is specific, and the process is rigorous; any miscommunication can negatively impact your long-term living experience.
In this episode, we’re focusing on a core necessity of life in China: practical Chinese for renting a place to live. We’ll cover four key areas: searching for housing online and offline, communicating during in-person viewings, inquiring about and confirming all-household amenities, and the details of signing a lease agreement.
You’ll be able to put what you learn into practice immediately. In addition to language instruction, we’ll share insights into Chinese rental culture, unwritten rules, regional differences between the north and south, and customs for avoiding contract pitfalls—all topics you’ll never find in textbooks. This will help you understand the Chinese mindset, communication logic, and living habits when it comes to renting. Whether you’re in China for a short-term stay, long-term work or study, making Chinese friends, or simply looking to steadily improve your everyday Chinese skills, this episode will help you navigate the entire rental process seamlessly and learn practical Chinese at your own pace.
Delivery and Food Delivery: Understanding China’s “Lazy Economy” and “Efficient Lifestyle”| Chinese Learning | Chinese Daily Conversations | 日常对话 | 中文听力 | 中文播客

If you come to China to live, travel, or study, there are two things you simply can’t avoid on a daily basis: food delivery and package delivery. In China, ordering online and having packages delivered, as well as ordering takeout via smartphone, are the most basic and frequent aspects of daily life. They’re fast, affordable, and available citywide—and they’re also one of the most iconic features of life in China.
But many beginners face the same challenge: they can’t read addresses, don’t know how to give their address, can’t get through to delivery drivers on the phone, don’t know how to leave special instructions for takeout orders, and can’t understand delivery drivers’ instructions. Even though mobile apps let you place orders with a single tap, the moment a delivery rider calls or a pickup station notifies you to collect a package, you instantly get stuck—forced to rely on gestures or translation apps, which is extremely inconvenient. More importantly, the logic behind Chinese address formatting is the exact opposite of English. If you don’t understand the rules, you’ll never be able to memorize or state them correctly.
In this episode, we’re focusing on essential everyday scenarios: practical Chinese for package delivery and food delivery. We’ll also demystify China’s unique delivery culture, address logic, and daily customs—so you’ll not only be able to speak the language but also understand why Chinese people express things this way.
Delivery and Food Delivery: Understanding China’s “Lazy Economy” and “Efficient Lifestyle”| Chinese Learning | Chinese Daily Conversations | 日常对话 | 中文听力 | 中文播客

20/07/2026 | 12 minGiven the current time and location (Shanghai), the theme of this episode—“Banking”—takes on a unique “Magic City” atmosphere. It’s the middle of the plum rain season; the air is humid and stifling, and people are eager to find relief indoors. Banks are the perfect place to do just that—they’re cool and offer a solution to practical problems.
Building on the “in-depth conversation among friends” style of previous episodes, this audio script breaks away from the original document’s rigid “instruction-follow-along” structure and reimagines it as a natural flow of “immersive scenarios → cultural exploration → emotional resonance.” It greatly enriches the details of local Shanghai life (such as the bank on West Nanjing Road and the café under the plane trees), delves deeply into the subtext of Chinese expressions (such as “running errands,” “rules,” and “mobile payments”), and weaves in plenty of cultural banter about financial security, social etiquette, and life philosophies, making it a warm and insightful lifestyle podcast.
Understand the "rules" and "sense of security" of Chinese people | Chinese Learning | Beginner-Friendly | Chinese Daily Conversations | 轻松学中文 | 日常对话 | 中文听力 | 中文播客 | 中国文化
