Grab your crucifix and run for the hills, because Ken Russell’s legendary 1971 holy-terror freakout, The Devils, has finally crawled out of the censor's vault and hit theaters in its glorious, unrated, decades-forbidden glory. Starring Vanessa Redgrave as a sexually repressed, deeply unhinged nun and Oliver Reed as a swaggering priest who loves sin way too much, this unhinged cinematic acid-trip tells the true-ish story of a 17th-century French town losing its collective mind over witchcraft and mass hysteria. In this episode, we're diving headfirst into the blasphemous, wildly theatrical chaos that terrified movie studios so badly they tried to bury it for over thirty years—and why this glorious middle finger to (every) establishment still rules today.
