Welcome back to our REWIND series! Christi and Kelly are going back through the archive, re-editing, and re-uploading our old episodes — in order, from the very beginning of Dance Moms.

This week, they’re revisiting Season 2, Episode 8, “The Runaway Mom,” where Nia finally gets the week she’s been waiting for. She lands at the top of the pyramid, gets a solo, and actually gets the chance to feel like the featured dancer for once.

Then Jill walks out on Abby and shows up with Kendall at Candy Apples — and suddenly Nia’s big moment becomes part of an entirely different fight. Kendall is put directly against her, the competition gets personal fast, and Holly is left feeling like Nia got dragged into a game that had nothing to do with her.

Christi and Kelly look back on Jill’s dramatic exit, the shock of seeing Kendall with Cathy, and why what should have been one of Nia’s happiest weeks ended up becoming one of the most frustrating.

Abby officially QUITS Dance Moms. She's kicked the girls out of her brand-new LA studio, abandoned rehearsals, and left everyone wondering if she's ever coming back. But somehow, she's still expecting the girls to show up at night, wear her ALDC merchandise, and help promote the very studio they're no longer allowed to rehearse in...

Christi and Kelly revisit Season 6, Episode 5, “Abby's Replaceable,” where the girls are left to fend for themselves — and might actually be better off. Holly takes Nia and Kalani to train with the legendary Debbie Allen, who offers them an opportunity that has the moms questioning why they're still putting up with Abby in the first place. After years of being told their daughters were replaceable, the tables finally turn this episode.

And the chaos doesn't stop with Abby going AWOL. The mini moms are already calling the police on each other, Nia faces vicious bullying from fans, and the girls are struggling to pull together an ambitious Bollywood routine with an entirely new choreographer. Yet somehow, when competition day arrives, they manage to win WITHOUT Abby. It's a pretty remarkable outcome for someone who spent years taking credit for their success.

But instead of letting Paige enjoy any of it, Abby immediately starts picking her apart. Kelly looks back on the rehearsal where Paige is crying, looking to her mom for help, and says this was one of the moments that really started changing her relationship with Abby.

Christi and Kelly also compare what happened to Paige with the way Chloe was treated when she reached the top — and why being #1 on Abby’s pyramid sometimes felt more like a punishment than a reward.

Meanwhile, Maddie returns to face off against Brynn, Melissa threatens to punch Ashlee, and the girls get a huge opportunity with Seventeen magazine — one Abby allegedly tries to sabotage for Nia. And with Abby sending in her resignation and disappearing from the competition entirely, the moms are left wondering whether she's ever coming back.
