Join us as Ben, Dessy, Tiago, and Rose cover the inspirations behind Ace Attorney! Dessy returns, and we discuss one of the most influential games of all time, but has never come out in English officially! The Portopia Serial Murder Case is an early adventure game made by Yuji Horii, which combines adventure game mechanics with text adventures and hard-boiled detective stories! The result? A surprising game that seems almost banal and short by today's standards, but had a huge impact on creators like Hideo Kojima, Eiji Aonuma, Shu Takumi, and many, many more. We discuss Portopia '81, Ace Attorney canon fursonas, spending time at the long day factory, and uh... police brutality! A little something for everyone!

The Roman Hat Mystery (Part 2)
Join us as Ben, Dessy, Tiago, and Rose cover the inspirations behind Ace Attorney! Unfortunately Dessy is still out, but will be back next time! We dive back into the world of 1929 New York with Inspector Queen and his son Ellery, and end up with even more racism than before to deal with! It even factors into the motive of the killer! We deal with that as best we can, discuss the witnesses and our favorite side characters, whether the book has too much investigating, and if Ellery can be normal at all. Tiago defends Angela Russo (no surprise there!), Rose critiques a confusing scene, and then we all get distracted talking about future Ace Attorney stuff and if it'll ever even happen. The clock is ticking, Capcom! The 25th anniversary is next year!

The Roman Hat Mystery (Part 1)
Join us as Ben, Dessy, Tiago, and Rose cover the inspirations behind Ace Attorney! Unfortunately Dessy is out this time around, because they got roped into helping to plan a wedding! The rest of the crew solemnly carries on... We've met Alice Arisugawa, but now it's time to meet the work that inspired HIM! Ellery Queen, one of the most famous American detectives, has finally entered the podcast. Today we discuss the 1929 novel's first half, with an explosive play at the start, an expansive cast of characters, and the father-son detecting duo at the heart of it all. Rose also gets herself in hot water with an "I think Coolsville sucks!" moment, Tiago restrains himself more than once, and we all bonk Queen on the head with a baseball bat through time because of the, you know, racism. But at the heart of it all is some compelling writing, lots of fun characters, and one very important missing hat!

Columbo - Short Fuse
Join us as Ben, Dessy, Tiago, and Rose cover the inspirations behind Ace Attorney! After being so well-behaved last time, this episode the crew gets particularly unruly, and even attempts to usurp Ben as host. Bombs, chemicals, and well-endowed actors are the name of the game here! Columbo always gives us a nice place to blow off some steam, and if the silly string isn't enough, we also consider the mellified man, an Ace Attorney dinner party, and Dessy deploying a long-awaited chemical-based pun. Join us for all this and more as we dive back into Peter Falk's bumbling detective!

The Moai Island Puzzle
Join us as Ben, Dessy, Tiago, and Rose cover the inspirations behind Ace Attorney! Today we've got a special guest, an expert in shin honkaku mysteries: MinovskyArticle! He graciously agreed to help break down this influential novel by Alice Arisugawa that helped inspired many other modern mystery writers, including our favorite Ace Attorney directors Shu Takumi and Takeshi Yamazaki. We chat about the fun character interactions, the strange island that revolves around puzzles, and what the solution to it all could be! And we also engage in some classic UAR diversions, although less than usual, because I (Ben) threatened everyone to be on their best behavior. Maybe. :) Who's the REAL mastermind? Find out as we break down "The Moai Island Puzzle!"
