Here’s my spoiler-free Out Of Theater Reaction and review for the 2026 Resident Evil movie starring Austin Abrams. I know there’s been a lot of skepticism from Resident Evil fans because this isn’t a direct adaptation of one specific game, but I had an absolute blast with this. Cregger found a really clever way to translate the feeling of actually playing Resident Evil into a movie — the resource management, environments, sound design, creatures, camera work and that constant feeling that something horrible is waiting around the corner.
Austin Abrams is fantastic as Bryan and gives what I think is a legit star-making performance. This is easily Cregger’s most straightforward movie compared to Barbarian and Weapons, but it’s funny, tense, violent, scary-fun and moves like an absolute thrill ride.
